Here are a couple AMD-based models I have matched up to Arima and eMachines....

Gateway 7405GX is exactly same as eMachines M6809, but with a different lid.  (says Gateway, and it is all silver with no black)
Gateway 7210GX is almost same as eMachines M6807, but it the 7210GX has an 80GB Hard disk instead of a 60GB

Both of these machines are based on the Arima W730-K8 base system.

There are several easy upgrades that will provide greatly improved performance.

1. Upgrade your operating system to Microsoft's Windows XP 64-bit OS to take advantage of the this systems true speed. The 32-bit operating system that comes standard with these machines uses only half of its true processing power.

2. Upgrade the memory stick to 1024 MB. This may be the single easiest upgrade with the greatest overall speed improvement (other than upgrading to a 64-bit OS).

3. Upgrade the CPU to AMD-64 3400. Current prices on this processor are fairly high. So, upgrading now may not provide a lot of bang for the buck. I recommend waiting for prices to fall, and AMD to produce faster, slot compatible processors.

4. Upgrade the hard drive to 80 GB or larger. When it comes to hard drive, bigger is better and faster. A faster hard drive can provide dramatic speed improvements on any system. Install the largest, fastest 2-1/2 inch IDE drive available.

5. Upgrade the CDROM/RW & DVD reader to CDROM/RW & DVD-RW/-R\+R. While this upgrade will allow you to write DVDs, it does not enhance the system speed. Internal versions of these drives are fairly expensive. In fact, they're about the same price as a faster external CDROM/RW & DVD-RW/-R\+R. RECOMMENDATION: Purchase an external model and connect it to your laptop through an available USB port in order to keep your drive when your laptop becomes obsolete
