Trigem Florida-TG/TGA End User's Upgrades

This section is dedicated to YOU, the ones who use these eMachines day in and day out, who go and find the latest drivers, look for the latest upgrades, who try to make their machine perform at its best. The following posts are comments, from end users, on what you have found out that has worked for you. Since these posts are end user contributions, use the info contained here at your own risk.

Max Processor Speed

01.05.02

I have had so many emails wanting to know, "Can I over-clock this Florida-C/TG/TGA mobo? What is the fastest I can go with this Florida-C/TG/TGA?". The answer is 533Mhz. Due to the architecture of the board (PPGA), 533Mhz is the limit. There are no jumpers for FSB, multiplier, or core voltage settings, so over-clocking is out of the question.

Max RAM

02.13.02

I upgraded a 400ix from 256 to 512 with no problems. I had 1 256 PC100 chip and added a 2nd 256 PC100 [double-sided].
I also upgrade the CPU from 400 to 533 as well as upgraded the HD from the factory 6.4GB to a 60GB drive.

How To Disable On-board Video

01.04.03

First install the PCI video card...either put it into PCI slot one or if that is taken put it into PCI slot 2 and boot up with the monitor plugged into the old onboard video. Hit delete during the boot emachines splash screen to get into the bios and set "Primary video" to "PCI". Don't mess with anything else other than primary video.

Now exit and save changes...while its rebooting plug the monitor into the new card. I'm not going to cover how to install the drivers and so on for the new card as it should have came with info for that.

Now to disable the onboard video...there is a jumper on the motherboard to disable the onboard AGP. Look here http://www.emachine-upgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket370/floridatg.htm and under the jumpers link for a location of the jumper. 99% of the time this jumper doesn't disable onboard AGP but disables it from use...it still shows up in the device manager and grayed out in the display settings. So what you will also need to do is go into the device manager (right click on "my computer" select Properties and in windows 9x/me it will be the device manager tab, in other versions of windows it will be the hardware tab then click on device manager) expand the "display adapters/devices" find the onboard ATI video card and disable it.. either right click on it and select disable or double click on it and use the drop down to set it to disable in the profile.
