W3623 Upgrades
07.30.07
First eMachines W3623 upgrade I'm aware
off. I borrowed some parts out of a brand new Acer
Desktop. I swapped out the CPU. I went from the P4 641
with HT to the Pentium D 925 Dual Core. I swapped the
single 512 stick for the 1GB Dual Channel setup in the
Acer and ditched the 160GB WD for the 250 Seagate
7200.10 w/8MB Cache. Total cost of upgrade...$0. Well, I
did order a GeForce 7300GT with 256MB off ebay for
around $70. I also order a new Coolermaster Extreme 550W
Power supply to drop in before the video card gets here.

Also, I just upgraded with the latest
retail BIOS for the Intel D945GCCR retail version (I
crossed my fingers on this one). I had no problems at
all and everything flashed perfectly. No more "e" splash
screen, it is now "intel" and I have a few more options
in the BIOS and the latest processor support.

Another Successful Retail BIOS Flash 6.07.08
I also succeeded. I bought a mobo having been told it
was something other than what it turned out to be, which
WAS, apparently, an "OEM" version of an intel D945GCCR.
It WAS the same as the board described by other posters
in this thread: D945GCCRG1. And a big "e" would splash
on the screen upon boot-up.
So I flashed the bios to version 59, which I believe
dates to Jan 2008.
I have WinXP Pro on the computer, and it worked after
rebooting. No blue screen of death!
Incidentally, I used the most common method, a flash
that is done using the Windows o/s.
Before, my bios id string was
CR94510J.15A.1007.2007.0216.1519
Now it is
CR94510J.86A.0059.2008.0116.1535
which, I believe, corresponds to Jan 16, 2008. jbecich |
