T6542 Upgrades
01.18.07 • WD 74GB SATA 10,000RPM Raptor
• Seagate 200GB 7200RPM
• ATI All-In-Wonder X800XL
• LITE-ON DVD-RW SOHW-1633S
• LITE-ON DVD-ROM SOHD-16P9SV The T6542
has 2 SATA ports, and I wondered if they were active so
I installed my WD Raptor and it recognized it right
away.....and even booted to it without even changing
anything in the bios! I thought for sure it would need
the F6 drivers. But it didn't and continue to boot all
the way to the desktop where it (WinXP Pro on the HDD)
found a bunch of new hardware. That was all well and
good but I had my eye on this WinMCE "restore" DVD. I
popped it in the top DVD burner rebooted and was met
with a screen with 2 options of a destructive or
nondestructive restore. Of course I chose destructive,
thinking this disk is gonna load all that crap that was
on it originally. About 20 minutes late I'm sitting at a
desktop....with no apps, no crap! A CLEAN install of
WinMCE!
NO PROMPT FOR ACTIVATION.
I had to load my ATI video, Realtek audio, smbus drivers
and something else that I have forgotten...I still have
a "?" by an "Unknown device". Don't know what the hell
that is,,,no it's not the modem, I took it out before I
"restored" it.

Not a lot of room in these Nexgen cases, but at least I
won't have to worry about any inductive capacitance with
that wiring cluster fuxx0r!

Here you can see the rear 92mm case fan that replaced
the 80mm.

Here you can see the two optical drives with the smooth
faceplates, floppy drive added and the red arrow
pointing to the 2 USB ports I added. It originally came
with just the 2 audio ports (far right).

And here it is all buttoned up with custom side panel.

More T6542 Upgrades
I have a motherboard from an eMachine T6542 (C51PVGM-M).
I built a new system around it and flashed the bios from
ECS 's Website version 08/05/16 and had no problems. I'm
still only using 2 GB of RAM. DDR2-PC2-6400. I also
dropped in an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor. Runs real
nice. tomb1
