If you have any of the missing
info/drivers please
send it to me and I'll make it
available. Thanks, TD
I personally don't use the shortcut keys (or the
eKeyboards as far as that goes), so if anyone out there
knows how to configure them or has any other info/pics/drivers
on them, please let me know and I'll make it all
available.
Thanks
TD
I received the following in an anonymous email for
modifying the shortcut keys...might be worth checking
out:
The latest editor that I used was XVI32. It's freeware
and can be downloaded from
download.com.
Copy easykey.exe to a temp directory rename it and copy
it again so you have two copies and an original then
open it with the editor. scroll down to or go to hex
address 73334 (7533E for NT) and you should see the
first of the offending url's. You will see that they are
long enough to overwrite your favorites.
I was afraid that I would make mistakes if I opened and
edited the easy key program so I have the program
calling a redirect file for each key.
I replaced http://www.site.I-don-t.want.to.go.to
with
file://c:\program files\easy
keyboard\buttons\button17.html
(you must make sure that the space after your link is
blank "00 hex" that is on the hex side of the screen
overwrite with "zero" not the space bar)
The contents of the file are:
"<HTML>
"<HEAD>
"<TITLE>button01 redirect to Yahoo</TITLE>
"<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="0; URL= http://www.yahoo.com">
"</HTML>
Copy and paste into notepad and save as button17.html
The leading quote in each line must be removed. I didn't
want the forum program to do anything funny.
1. The space after your new address and the next one
must be all "00" hex. you must click over to the hex
view and overwrite the remainder of the url with"00" 's
2. The address above is the first occurrence in the
program and it corresponds with the search key.
3. Top to bottom in the program is right to left on the
keyboard ending with banking key.
4. Yes! you can invoke a program e.g. file://c:\Program
Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe will open outlook. my
message key will do that for me.
*. the space after your new address and the next one
must be all "00" hex. you must click over to the hex
view and overwrite the remainder of the url with"00" 's.
5. You must make sure that easykey is not running to
replace the file after editing.
have fun..
This is the file that goes along with this that does NOT
need editing...works with eKB-5190. Just run the
EKEYS.EXE program, and right-click the icon in the
taskbar tray. You have the option to edit "My eKey
Settings". Even though the file name is EasyKey_NT, it
works with Win9x.

EasyKey_NT.zip
If you are having problems with the above file, try
this:
I read the post under the keyboard section on the site.
Two of my four emachines have the ekb5190 and I wanted
to improve the hotkeys and make them more useful. I
downloaded and tried the 5190 for NT that was on the
site and it did not work for me. So I considered the
instructions to rewrite the exe file and change the
hotkey instruction. While in Drivers.com to get the
recommended editor, I decided to search for ekb5190 and
found a driver that claimed to work for the 5190 with
all Windows version including Windows XP.
I downloaded the zip file. I removed all the old ekb5190
stuff that I could using McAfee Uninstaller and deleting
the remaining directories.
I made a director for the files in program files, I
named mine EasyKey and unzipped the file. I created a
shortcut for the EasyKeys.exe and put it in my startup
menu.
On reboot it loaded EasyKeys and placed an Icon in the
tray.
If you right click the Icon you get a windows where you
can edit (actually add since they start out blank) the
sites or program you want for each hotkey.
This has worked on both my emachine with the 5190 and it
works great. I hope this will help someone else.
