Bundled Software Overview
eMachines Training Department

Introduction

In this module we will be talking about software applications that you will find on an eMachines computer. This software is broken down into 3 groups:

• Bundled Software: Software that came on the computer and can only be reinstalled by restoring the computer.

• Downloadable Software: Software that came on the computer but can be downloaded off the internet (Example: Acrobat Reader)

• Third Party Software: Software that did not come with the computer and is not supported by eMachines.

At this point you should be familiar with the Help and Support interface and the Help Viewer, if not please see “Software Overview”.

By the end of this module you should be able to identify an application and what category that application fits in to.

eMacInfo2

An important tool used to identify what category an application fits into is eMacInfo2 (http://emacinfo2.magna.alorica.com). With eMacInfo2 you are able to look up a system and view the bundled software that came with the computer.

Once you have looked up a system you will see a series of links on the top of the system specifications page. One of those links will be Software, which is our main focus at the moment. Clicking the software link will display a list of the applications that were installed on that system. (see left)

Any software that the customer has installed on the computer that is not listed in eMacInfo2 is most likely third party and not supported by eMachines. (see right)

3rd Party Software

3rd party software is the leading cause of system crashes and lowered system performance. eMachines does not support 3rd party software because it would be impossible to ensure that all software worked with all operating systems. Also there is no way for any company to be familiar with every software product on the market. Our support boundary is checking for disk space and cleaning up MSCONFIG. If the customers require further assistance on 3rd party software they will have to contact the manufacture of the software or Priority One Support. Keep in mind that 3rd party means not our software. Why this fact is brought up is because it is the customer’s software therefore stating “3rd party software” over the phone doesn’t make sense to them.
